Welcome to National Diabetes Week!

This week Diabetes NSW is focusing on how people living with diabetes can maintain a healthy mind. We will be showcasing a series of health screenings, a member forum, the Kellion awards, an AFL game and lots more!

Here’s a little more information about our activities this week:

Annual Cycle of Care Screenings
The Annual Cycle of Care screening is a free 30minute screening provided by our team of diabetes educators, dietitians and exercise physiologists. The screening includes HbA1c and Cholesterol (by finger prick), Blood Pressure, BMI, Kidney health (by urine sample), Foot assessment and Peripheral Vascular Disease (PVD) screening.

We are having eight screenings held at various locations in Glebe, Newcastle, Port Macquarie, Wagga Wagga, Wollongong and Liverpool.

Tomorrow – Tuesday, 15 July – we are hosting a member forum at NSW Parliament House which will give attendees the chance to share experiences about living with the pressures of diabetes.
Diabetes NSW Head of Consumer and Community, Trish Egan, will start the day and Member for Oatley, Mark Coure, will make a brief address, followed by a presentation from Psychologist Dr Janine Clarke from Black Dog Institute.
We will host some feedback sessions and then our members will break into groups and attend either a Tai Chi class, a talk on “knowing your rights’ or a discussion on “getting the best from your GP”.
This event was open to Diabetes NSW members only. Become a member of Diabetes NSW today if you would like to be invited to the next one! We run sociable, informative and educational seminars across the year and around the State, so don’t miss out on the opportunity to get some extra support and have a bit of fun as well.

Diabetes Australia launches their national campaign

Your Diabetes Healthcare Team
Diabetes NSW has recognised the importance of knowing which healthcare professionals can help you to best manage your diabetes and assist you to feel empowered in taking responsibility for your health.
With the help of the National Diabetes Services Scheme we have released a series of videos where healthcare professionals explain briefly what they do and how they can best assist someone who has diabetes. You can find these videos here.
