Group exercise and the benefitsSue Lau2015-05-04T10:20:36+00:00
We’re all in this together
It’s not a surprise that research supports the merits of exercising in a group environment as opposed to doing it alone. Adherence, social interaction, quality of life, physiological and functional effectiveness are shown to be greater within this kind of context.
The good news is, Diabetes NSW runs a group based exercise program all around the state called “Beat It”. This program is specifically designed to help people living with diabetes and is run by an Accredited Exercise Physiologist.
One of our Beat It groups has just finished up their 8 week program. Many participants had never exercised before, or at least not for a long time, and found the program a great motivator to be more active and live a healthier lifestyle. Accountability, increased knowledge and confidence to exercise were key motivating factors to the success of the program…and of course the social side too! Being around people with similar goals, struggles, not to mention stories, is very empowering and special.
If you’re thinking about joining a group, keep an eye out on our website for details of our next Beat It program. If it’s in an area near you, why not sign up and put yourself in the best environment to achieve your healthy goals! Otherwise give us a call on 1300 342 238 and we can help you find an exercise program in your area.
