Donate now to minimise diabetes complications

It’s been 100 years since the life-saving discovery of insulin.

But insulin therapy is only one aspect of diabetes management, there is so much more to it.

Diabetes is still a life-threatening condition that can be challenging to manage. Diabetes NSW & ACT is at the coalface delivering programs to support people wherever they are in their diabetes journey. We have worked tirelessly for over 80 years to improve individual support, education and preventable care.

“The discovery of insulin gave me life. I’m alive because of that,” says Sarah.

At just 10-years-old, Sarah was diagnosed with diabetes. Her mum knew the signs and symptoms to look out for because Sarah’s uncle had also lived with type 1 diabetes since childhood. Wind the clock forward and Sarah’s daughter, Bianca, has also been diagnosed.

Sarah is thankful there have been advances in diabetes care over the last three generations. As someone who not only lives with diabetes, but has a child with the same condition, having programs that help with the day-to-day management and care of diabetes has been vital for Sarah.

“Although living with diabetes can be manageable, the risk of complications on your body are very real and they can be life threatening. I have used the support provided by Diabetes NSW & ACT and they have really helped.”

“Diabetes NSW & ACT’s resources have been invaluable.”

Please give today to support people with a diabetes connection from all walks of life. Thanks to you, we can reach out with psychological care, advocate for hospital care, campaign against stigma and fund research. Together we can shape the way diabetes is managed.
