Diabetes NSW & ACT is excited to announce a Principal Partnership agreement with Fitbit Australia.

The announcement which comes in the lead up to World Diabetes Day signals Fitbit’s strong commitment to the health and wellbeing of the diabetes community and supports their goal is to help everybody lead healthier and more active lives.

Sturt Eastwood, CEO of Diabetes NSW & ACT, said “We’re excited about our new partnership with Fitbit Australia because it gives us new opportunities to talk to our community about the benefits of being active. Being physically active is important for everyone’s health and wellbeing but it’s particularly important in helping with the management and prevention of type 2 diabetes.”

With almost 386,000 people in NSW and the ACT living with the type 2 diabetes, Fitbit is keen to work with Diabetes NSW & ACT to promote the benefits of a healthy and active lifestyle for people living with the condition.

Sturt said, “The prevalence of Type 2 diabetes is growing, but it is important for people to know that they can prevent or delay the condition if they take action. A healthy lifestyle that includes a balanced diet and exercise can prevent or delay 60 per cent of cases of type 2 diabetes.

“If diabetes is detected early and managed well, it helps reduce the risk of complications like eye and kidney damage, heart disease and stroke from developing.”

“Moving for as little as 30 minutes a day can make a difference to your health. And wearables like those offered by Fitbit can provide the nudge and motivation people need to be more active,” said Sturt.

Fitbit Australia has also signed a partnership agreement with Diabetes Queensland. Together, Diabetes NSW & ACT and Diabetes Queensland help and support more than 605,000 Australians living with type 2 diabetes through the delivery of educational programs, events and services aimed at improving their day to health and quality of life.

Over the coming months there’ll be more news to share about the Fitbit partnership. So keep your eyes peeled to find out how we’ll be working with Fitbit to promote the benefits of a healthy and active lifestyle.
