Kids with diabetes exempt from mobile phone banTuesday, 5 February 2019
This year, mobile devices will be banned during school hours in NSW public primary schools. However, children who rely on their phones to manage and monitor their diabetes are exempt from the ban.
The ban means that primary students can still take a phone to school but it will need to be kept in their bag or stored elsewhere and turned off during school hours – unless a teacher gives them permission. Importantly students who require access to a mobile phone because of a health issue such as diabetes or a disability will be exempt.
Diabetes NSW & ACT encourages any parents with concerns to talk to their child’s teacher and principal.
The ban was put in place by the NSW Government following an independent review.
