Our Psychologist on Call, Katherine, has seen a 30% increase in the volume of calls for phone counselling since the COVID-19 self-isolation began.
As COVID-19 restrictions begin to lift, we are still facing uncertainty. For people living with diabetes who are more susceptible to serious illness and complications if they contract the virus, this remains a highly stressful time.
Some people have felt so overwhelmed it has resulted in ‘diabetes burnout’, where high levels of emotional distress have led them to stop taking the steps required to manage their diabetes.
As the only organisation in our region that supports people living with all types of diabetes and their carers, Diabetes NSW & ACT is committed to adapting the way we deliver our assistance and expert advice in these changing times.
It’s only because of the support of our donors that our Psychologist on Call program was established and ready to scale up when the pandemic hit. Now we need to ensure that we can continue to deliver this essential service.
Please donate now to tackle isolation, advocate, deliver psychological support and care for people living with diabetes. You’ll be helping people living with diabetes in urgent need today, and through whatever circumstances the coming months will bring.
